The Latin name for the species, sanguinipuncta, translates to something like "bloody spots", referring to the blood-like patches on the wings.

This particular individual, being slightly damp from sharing my shower, perhaps looks a little gorier than normal. This is a bit of a puzzle really, as insect blood is generally green or yellow in colour, not red, so the question needs to be asked- Just whose blood splashes are they?!
